SUZY PERFORMS NEW SONG ON OPRY
On Saturday, August 27th, Suzy peformed on the Grand Ole Opry. For the televised portion of the show, she sang I Still Miss Someone from her 1994 Simpatico album with Chet Atkins. She followed that song with a brand new piece that is slated to be on her next CD. The song Heaven is a touching confession by a gal that has found someone new and is trying to say goodby to another love that she can no longer see. She has found a new heaven on earth with this new love and having to let go of her lost love that is now in Heaven. The song was written by Suzy's husband and superb song smithy, Doug Crider. If the increase in fan mail this last week is any indication, this one airing of the song touched a whole lot of folks out there and we expect that once given even greater exposure, it could easily become another signature song for Suzy. The new CD is expected to be released sometime after the first of the year though no specific date has yet been set. Keep and eye on the website for more details as soon as we get them!! QUIET BROKEN WITH SUZY NEWSLETTER
Suzy has been Busy Busy Busy the last few months. With shows in the states, a trip to Spain for a private show, writing, and recording for her next album, our favorite gal songsmith had been maintaining a firey pace. For the rest of us, wondering what Suzy's been up to, it been almost a deafening quiet as our own lives hustle and bustle along. Then in an instant, the quiet is broken as Suzy and Doug took some time to tack together a little newsletter. Click here Knowing that quiet will again be displaced with the beautifully crafted strains of Suzy's music is a major comfort to those of us waiting for the shows of summer and early fall. While we wait and wonder, Suzy has been busy forging the intricate details of her chosen craft. One that many of her fans enjoy a great deal. I guess we should have known from that late night glow down at the songsmithy shop that something was going on. Here's hoping the brilliant shine of these newly polished pieces will attract even more attention to Suzy's music. Suzy's has been recording sessions in the NY area at Bennett Studios. STALKERS BECOME THE STALKEES
Recently members of the Society of Benevolent Suzy Bogguss Stalkers (SBSBS) met at a concert in Georgia to participate in their favorite past time. But the tables were turned as can be seen in the photo below when Suzy decided to stalk the stalkers.... All ended well though as none of the SBSBS members would even consider a restraining order on this particular stalker..... Rumor has it, the show was pretty darn good too. |

SUZY PART OF KID PAN ALLEY NASHVILLE
The Kid Pan Alley project that was started in Virginia, has branched out to another project in Nashville. Local song writers join children from local schools is a process of creating, writing and performing songs. The highly successful program allows the children to share in the creative process. Kid Pan Alley grew out of a school residency that was designed to celebrate the creative voices of the children of rural Rappahannock County, Virginia. Songwriter Paul Reisler, inspired by the quality, variety and freshness of the over 50 songs he wrote in collaboration with over 600 children, invited a diverse group of the community's professional musicians to take one song each and record it according to their own vision. Now, Kid Pan Alley is in Nashville. Last fall, Kid Pan Alley songwriters worked in a group songwriting process with Nashville children. After the songs were written, musicians from the Nashville Chamber Orchestra accompanied the songwriters on follow up visits so that the children could experience their songs taking shape. It was a remarkable experience for the children as they see orchestral instruments in a whole new light—in support of their songs. We had some of Nashville's top songwriters including Beth Nielsen Chapman, Jon Vezner, Angela Kaset, Bill Lloyd, Jason Blume, Jim Photoglo, Rick Beresford, James Dean Hicks, Chuck Jones, and Gary Nicholson joining Kid Pan Alley's Paul Reisler in working with the children. Some of Nashville's best known recording artists including Kix Brooks, Amy Grant, Raul Malo of the Mavericks, Delbert McClinton, Suzy Bogguss, Michael W. Smith, Tommy Sims, Jimmy Hall, Lari White, Jonell Mosser, Darrell Scott, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Kim Richey and others are participating in the recording of the songs. BEAUTIFUL DREAMER: THE SONGS OF STEPHEN FOSTER
"Beautiful Dreamer represents a contemporary anomaly, a tribute album that's not only good but essential...The album honors America's first great professional songwriter with some of the most spectacularly beautiful popular singing I've heard in ages." --Dave Marsh, No Depression
Beautiful Dreamer: The Songs of Stephen Foster American Roots Publishing's debut release, Beautiful Dreamer: The Songs of Stephen Foster, is nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Traditional Folk Album category. Grammy Awards are handed out on February 13, 2005 at 8pm ET/PT on CBS. Beautiful Dreamer is a collection of Foster's most beloved compositions and lesser-known exquisite parlor songs of his day sung by some of today's most respected musical artists including Raul Malo, Alison Krauss with Edgar Meyer, Yo Yo Ma and Mark O'Connor, Mavis Staples, John Prine, Michelle Shocked & Pete Anderson, David Ball, Roger McGuinn, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Ollabelle, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Suzy Bogguss, Ron Sexsmith, The Duhks, Judith Edelman, Henry Kaiser, Grey DeLisle, Will Barrow and BR 549. The compilation was produced by Steve Fishell and David Macias. Although Foster, America's first great songwriter, died 140 years ago, his legacy lives on in the hundreds of songs he left behind. Foster's compositions (including "Oh Susanna," "My Old Kentucky Home," "Camptown Races," "Jeanie With The Light Brown Hair" and "Hard Times Come Again No More") are woven into the fabric of our national identity, yet most music fans today know little about him. Foster has been unjustifiably overlooked in recent decades. Although tribute albums have become much too common, this project's historical significance distinguishes it from a crowded field. In the days preceding the civil war, Foster, his brother and some friends had a garage bandâ€"playing their music in the stable adjacent to their home. Decades before recorded music and radio existed, Foster's songs were "hits" all over America. In the civil war era book, "Cold Mountain," Ada uses a twenty-dollar gold piece given to her by Monroe to purchase a volume of Foster's songs. "Oh! Susanna" was the theme song for the California Gold Rush. "Old Folks At Home" was an anthem for slaves in the underground railroad. In 15 weeks, Beautiful Dreamer: The Songs of Stephen Foster, released by a nonprofit organization and not a record label, has sold more than 20,000 copies. The musical collection is the first fundraising project by American Roots Publishing, whose board members include such luminaries as Apple Computer inventor Steve Wozniak, roots music icon Emmylou Harris and daytime drama actress Bobbie Eakes along with music industry veterans Tom Frouge, Cameron Strang, Kathi Whitley and Steve Fishell. Rounding out the board are publishing executive Steve Garvan and academic Jack Sullivan. American Roots Publishing was founded by former music journalist and editor, Tamara Saviano. Beautiful Dreamer is available at record stores everywhere, pastemusic.com, amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, and americanrootspublishing.org. |
