    BOGGUSS TO SELF-RELEASE HOLIDAY SET
    October 18, 2001 (Press Release)

Country artist Suzy Bogguss will independently release the holiday album "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" Nov. 1 on her own Loyal Dutchess Records label. The set will be available through the artist's suzybogguss.com Web site, Amazon.com, select retailers, and at Bogguss' concerts.

Several of the album's dozen songs -- including "Mr. Santa" and "Two-Step Around the Christmas Tree" -- were Bogguss' 12-year tenure with Capitol Records and licensed from the label for inclusion on the set, while the rest are newly recorded.

"This is a modern record but there's a reminiscent quality to it," Bogguss said in a statement. "It's the way Christmas sounded to me when I was growing up. We'd always play Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Andy Williams -- really spirited, warm Christmas records... My goal with this record was to be one of those you pull out and play every year."

Among those who helped her achieve that goal is Delbert McClinton, who duets with Bogguss on "Baby It's Cold Outside," and Ricky Scaggs and the late Chet Atkins, who appear on "Mr. Santa."

Bogguss, who plans to support the release with a series of live appearances during the holiday season, is currently negotiating a new label deal which will see the release of a new studio album and the re-release of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" next year. The new album will feature Western swing act Asleep At The Wheel, and is tentatively due out in the spring.

Performances already scheduled are Dec. 13 in Annapolis, Md.; Dec. 14 in Alexandria, Va.; Dec. 15 in Uncasville, Conn.; and Dec. 12 in Torrington, Conn.

Here is the full track listing of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas":

    • "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"
    • "Mr. Santa"
    • "Sleigh Ride"
    • "Do You Hear What I Hear"
    • "Winter Wonderland"
    • "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day"
    • "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer"
    • "Two-Step 'Round the Christmas Tree"

    SUZY REMEMBERS CHET ATKINS
    July 2, 2001

Meeting Chet was a life changing moment for me. One of those times you look back on and say "if that hadn't happened, I wouldn't be who I am today."   He was my mentor, a sage, and a counselor but foremost he was a regular guy and my friend.  I really didn't realize the magnitude of his talent when we first became friends. It took me years to uncover his past works because Chet was always looking forward and he would never boast.  We used to play and sing for hours on the back porch of his office. We'd share one bottle of Michelob and let one song remind us of the next and so on, until it was time to go home. I'm so thankful for the grand memories I keep.

He was also such a generous person.  He spoke of people's good sides and was always complimentary of their talents and works in all walks of life.  He stayed up on all kinds of topics, not the least of which was music.  The number of guest appearances he made with other artists speaks of how he admired others talents.  He gave so many of us a real boost with the start of our careers.

We'll miss Chet so much, but what a wonderful body of work he has left us with which to remember him.  Every time I hear one of the hundreds of classic recordings he played on or produced, I will vividly be recalled to our times together.  When I hear the rich honest tone of his fingers on the strings, coaxing the most beautiful melodies,  I'll see him, balanced perfectly over his guitar.
